Breathing is essential to life for all humans. Something so crucial to our survival you would think we would talk about it more. Until I came across the well known Wim Hoff I never gave it much thought. Maybe it’s because our breathing is self-regulated and we don’t have to think about it at all unless we are in danger of not breathing. Of course, breathing keeps us alive but it also has so many positive qualities for our body and mind. We have to talk about this topic a lot more until we all see the benefits of breathwork In our life which has led me to write 5 valuable ways breathing benefits your life.

There have been countless studies on breath work from Harvard medical school to Wim Hoff himself who isn’t a doctor but can back up all of his claims on breath work through scientifically-backed research. There is so much research out there on breathwork it’s a no brainier that it works.

How It’s Benefited Me

Since I have started breathwork as a morning routine and using it as part of my Yoga exercises. It has helped me tremendously. I can’t say if it has helped me health-wise but definitely for mental control of the things I do. I can last longer in holding positions I never thought possible for that length of time. The biggest takeaway is the calmness it has brought to my life. I feel way more present and less stressful and from it have become a better dad and husband at home.

Below I have put together the 5 Valuable Ways Breathing Benefits Your Life so you can understand why taking up breathwork should be part of your daily routine. I hope this helps you with your self-improvement journey

Keeps You In Control

Whenever I do Yoga or my exercise routine. Breathwork has pushed me on to new levels of growth. For me, it boosts willpower to carry on and stay in control of my mind and body when I’m in some uncomfortable holding positions in Yoga and helps push me on when I’m feeling extremely tired doing HITT cardio. Whenever you’re doing any form of exercise make sure breathwork is part of it.

Keeps You Calm Under Pressure

Breathwork is an amazing tool for bringing oxygen back to the brain when you’re under pressure or you have lost control of your emotions. It’s a tool that’s been amazingly used on our 7-year-old son. Now he’s dealing with all kinds of different emotions and breathing has allowed him to come back to centre within seconds. For me as an adult whenever I get stressed out on a deadline or when it gets a bit overwhelming. Breathing takes all of this away and brings me back to a clear mind.

Helps With Relaxation

All meditation has breath work within it and the reason is. It calms the mind into a relaxation state where you feel one with yourself. It’s the closest thing you can get to being asleep but awake at the same time. If life is getting out of control take an x amount of time throughout your day and practice deep breathing work. You will feel the relaxation benefits from it immediately.

Keep You Present In The Moment

When life feels out of control breathing can help bring you back to the present. At that moment you can forget about the past and future and just focus on what’s happening around you. This has been proven to elevate stress and anxiety in people. It’s also a great way to focus on what’s is important and that’s the here and now of your life. The part you can control and breathwork help you do that.

In my life, I lived in the past and future and ultimately I was unhappy because of it. When I focussed on breath work and staying present I became happier and in-turn my pains of the past evaporated. My future inturn improved because of the focusing on the present and has gave me great clarity on help to move into it with positivity.

Final Thoughts

If we can make this mainstream and teach it to all children not only will they have a tool to keep themselves in control but also dealing with the stresses of adulthood. I reckon we would all make better decisions and deal with life’s difficulties and setbacks a lot better. As well as seeing amazing health benefits from it too. I recommend Wim Hoff if you are going to start and is easily accessible on YouTube to get started. I hope you have been inspired to give it ago. Have an open mind, research it and you will be thanking yourself you have taken breathing work up I have no doubt.
